Senator Wright: Investment In Future Already Paying Off
OSWEGO, NY - SUNY Oswego’s Center for Entrepreneurs has a successful inaugural year.

Small businesses are the backbone of our area’s communities. To expand economic opportunities in Oswego County, SUNY Oswego created the Center for Entrepreneurs, a program that provides assistance, education and training to entrepreneurs.

I was pleased to secure funding that enabled SUNY Oswego to establish the Center for Entrepreneurs, part of the Center for Business and Community Development, last year. The center provides business owners with education, research, technical assistance and training. In the short time of its existence, the center hosted and co-sponsored several events and programs
that link established entrepreneurs with students and emerging business owners.

SUNY Oswego’s Center for Entrepreneurs mirrors the success of
Jefferson Community College’s and SUNY Canton’s small business development centers. The advisors at the development centers own or owned a small business, so new entrepreneurs are able to tap into the knowledge of experienced business owners.

Like the center for entrepreneurs, JCC’s and SUNY Canton’s small business development centers provide technical assistance, training and seminars.

The centers provide one-on-one services to small businesses and
entrepreneurs, helping with everything from forming business plans to finding funding sources to resolving organizational, financial, marketing and technical issues. With this assistance, which is provided at no cost, small businesses have a better chance of success.

I am committed to advancing economic opportunities in Oswego County, and I look forward to the continued success of the center for entrepreneurs at SUNY Oswego. And even more, I look forward to seeing the center’s results - the success of area entrepreneurs in their business endeavors.
